History of Meditation

meditationIt is believed that meditation dates back over 5,000 years. The earliest documented records date back to 1500 BC from the teachings of the Vedas in ancient India. Meditation developed in Taoist China and Buddhist India around 600 BC. The first yoga hall opened in Japan in 653 BC. In the 18th century translations of ancient teachings began to travel to scholars in the west. In the 1920s books discssing meditation began to gain attention. In 1980 you probably still stuck out if you meditated. In 2012 you can find meditation groups, teachers and advocates at colleges, clinics, yoga studios, corporate wellness programs and retreat centers. Meditation is now widely accepted in practice and for the health benefits it offers.
